COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Gamecocks Women's Basketball team returned home Monday from the Championship Playoff in Cleveland, and a local business is stepping up by pushing full steam ahead.
Palmetto Shirt Company, a local custom t-shirt distributor in Columbia, will have a busy couple of days preparing for the celebration parade.
They are in the process of printing around 5,000-7,000 championship t-shirts.
Owner Rusty Koss happens to also be a USC graduate. He says the excitement in Columbia helps not only his business, but also the businesses he sells to.
“Not only is it us printing the shirts, we have all of our local retailers that are selling the shirts, and just the excitement and enthusiasm in the city just helps bring everything up," said Koss. "So, it's great.”
Koss says there was a creative process behind their championship shirt designs.
“You just go through some concepts and through some ideas, perfect, undefeated, 38 and 0," said Koss. "Highlighting those key numbers are important on the shirt. It’s history, it’s a historic run for the team.”
USC student Chase Daugherty says getting championship merch is at the top of his to do list.
“Obviously, with an undefeated season, you gotta show that off as much as possible and go and brag and I think keeping up-to-date is cool," said Daugherty. "I know that the vintage stuff is always awesome, too, to get the new gear in before everyone else does.”
The mayor of Columbia announced there will be a celebratory parade on Sunday.
