COLUMBIA, S.C. — Mike Shula is expected to be named South Carolina's new offensive coordinator, that according to Gamecockcentral.com.
The son of the NFL's all-time winningest coach Don Shula, the younger Shula came to South Carolina to spring as an offensive analyst. He was promoted to senior offensive assistant prior to the start of preseason camp.
If named, he would be replace Dowell Loggains who was hired as the head football coach at Appalachian State.
A longtime NFL assistant, Shula was the head coach at his alma mater, Alabama, from 2003-2006. That was his only college job befpre coming to Columbia in March.
One of Shula's many NFL stops was Charlotte where he was worked for the Carolina Panthers. He was the quarterbacks coach for the Panthers from 2011-2012 before working as the team's offensive coordinator from 2013-2017. Shula has also been an offensive coordinator for the Buccaneers and Giants.
