COLUMBIA, S.C. — It was back in 2019 when Alex "Boogie" Huntley was putting the finishing touches on his high school career as he helped Hammond win a third consecutive state championship.
Five years later, Huntley is in the final stages of his college career at South Carolina. Saturday's game at Williams- Brice Stadium will mark Senior Day and that means Boogie will be recognzied prior to kickoff with Wofford along with the rest of the senior Gamecocks.
After redshirting in 2020, Huntley has steadily improved in the past four years, even while battling the expected injuries that inevitably come.
But the past two seasons, Boogie has not missed a game. He played in all 12 games of 2023, starting 11. So far this season, Huntley has played in all 10 games and continues to be a fixture in the starting lineup.
During the week, Boogie was at the podium meeting the media and said his favorite memory involving a home game was the 2022 win over a top 10 Tennessee team. Huntley and the rest of the team were on the field celebrating with the fans who stormed the field after one of the biggest upsets in program history.
