CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Carolina Panthers hired Dave Canales as their new head coach, according to the team.
Canales, 42, spent one year as the offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While there, he helped the Bucs reach the NFC divisional playoffs with Baker Mayfield, a former Panther, at quarterback.
Before then, he was with the Seattle Seahawks for 12 years, where he filled many coaching roles for the offense.
"Dave's background is rooted in success," Panthers owner David Tepper said. "He has an innovative mindset and positive energy that connects well with players and staff. We are impressed with his ability to bring out the best in players."
The news comes just three days after the Panthers hired Dan Morgan as their general manager. Morgan and Canales worked together in Seattle for eight years.
Canales inherits a Panthers team that went 2-15 last season and does not have a first-round draft pick in 2024.
