NEW ORLEANS — A day after an MRI confirmed New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr would miss multiple games due to an oblique injury he sustained during the fourth quarter of a 26-13 loss to the Chiefs on Monday night, head coach Dennis Allen named rookie Spencer Rattler the starter for Week 6.
“We felt this was the right time for Spencer to get his opportunity,” Allen said during media availability following practice on Wednesday.
Allen claimed Carr is “week-to-week,” but he is expected to miss Week 7's home game against the Denver Broncos on Thursday.
Carr, who went 18-of-28 for 165 yards with two touchdowns and one interception, left the game with a bit more than nine minutes left to play.
His backup, a fellow Fresno State alum, Jake Haener, went 2-of-7 for 17 yards.
The Saints drafted Haener in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL draft, while Rattler was taken in the fifth round out of South Carolina this year.
