Columbia, SC (WLTX) --- ESPN is reporting that former South Carolina Gamecocks running back Marcus Lattimore plans to retire Monday.
The article cites an NFL source confirming the news. Lattimore is currently a member of the San Francisco 49ers.
However, Lattimore's agency says his client has not made a decision, and is still considering his options.
Several outlets near San Francisco reported Sunday that Lattimore was not on the field with the team on Sunday for their game against the Rams.
"Did not see Marcus," 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said. "I'm sure we'll have an announcement about that."
Lattimore reported soreness in his injured knee after a few days of practice.
Lattimore suffered season-ending injuries to his knees during both his sophomore and junior years at South Carolina, requiring surgery to both his right and left leg. He did not play at all in 2013, or for most of this season, but had begun practicing last week.
