WASHINGTON — Simone Biles finally gave fans a long-awaited answer: the official name for the U.S. gymnastics team competing at the Paris Olympics.
Following a stellar gold medal performance in the team final, the American gymnastics star revealed the official team nickname.
"Okay on the real though, the official team name is golden girls (because oldest olympic team)," the most decorated U.S. Olympic gymnast said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The name is a reference to the classic TV show "Golden Girls," starring Bea Arthur, Betty White, Rue McClanahan and Estelle Getty. The 1980s show centered around a group of older women sharing a home in Florida.
The nickname is fitting for the oldest women's gymnastics team the U.S. has ever sent to the Olympics. It also was revealed on "Golden Girls Day," which is July 30.
But the "Golden Girls" wasn't necessary Biles' first choice for the team moniker.
In a news conference Tuesday, the 27-year-old was asked about the team name by former Olympic teammate Aly Raisman.
Biles jokingly gave a NSFW response: "F.A.A.F.O" – "F*** around and find out."
The American gymnastics star and her singular brilliance powered a dominant U.S. women’s team in the finals inside a raucous Bercy Arena on Tuesday.
After securing her eighth Olympic gold medal, Biles posted a celebratory photo of her now "Golden Girls" with a shady caption.
"Lack of talent, lazy, olympic champions ❤️🥇," Biles captioned the picture of her alongside Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey and Hezly Rivera.
Fans were quick to notice Biles' caption was a clapback to earlier remarks from one of the Olympian's former teammates MyKayla Skinner.
In a since deleted video, Skinner had criticized the U.S. women's gymnastics team.
"Besides Simone, I feel like the talent and the depth just isn’t like what it used to be," Skinner said. "Just notice like, I mean, obviously a lot of girls don’t work as hard. The girls just don’t have the work ethic."
Skinner later apologized on Instagram, following backlash. After Biles' post, it appears Skinner blocked Biles on the social media platform.
With just one post, Biles was quick to prove to never bet against the "Golden Girls."
