Cayce opens new river access point for kayakers and tubers

Cayce's new river access point offers kayakers and tubers a shorter, easier trip, enhancing recreational options along the Congaree River.

CAYCE, S.C. — The City of Cayce announced it has added a new public access point to the Congaree River, allowing kayakers and tubers to put in and take out at an additional spot.

The H. Kelley Jones River Access is located along the Three Rivers Greenway, behind H. Kelley Jones Park, at 2616 Riverland Dr.. The park features a fenced playground, covered area, picnic tables, and a shaded overlook of the Congaree River.

If tubers and kayakers put in at the West Columbia Amphitheater at the Gervais Street Bridge, the float time to the new access point is between 1.5 to 2 hours, making it an easier, shorter trip for families with younger children.

Cayce Mayor Elise Partin said the new access point was a “true family-friendly addition to the Riverland Park community that benefits people across the region that want to enjoy spending time on the Congaree River!”

The new access point was created through a partnership with leaders from the City of Cayce, River Alliance, Martin Marietta, and West Columbia businessman Michael Mayo. Funding for the project came from Hospitality Tax revenue.
