BARNWELL COUNTY, S.C. — South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) announced it will be closing one of the five entry points at Lake Edgar Brown in Barnwell County. SCDNR cites the lack of use and remote location of the parking lot and boat ramp at the end of Nappier Road on the west side of the lake as the reasons for the closure.

An earthen berm is being constructed on Nappier Road by SCDNR's State Lakes program and should be completed by Saturday, March 9. The remaining four public boat ramps that will remain open at the 100-acre fishing lake are:

  • north and south parking lots off Wellington Road, the road crossing at the center of the lake
  • Black Road boat ramp at the northern tip of the lake

Lake Edgar Brown is known for it's supply of largemouth bass, bluegill, shellcracker, and catfish, as well as boating and waterskiing opportunities.

The lake is open 24 hours a day for fishing, and the lake is open a half-hour before sunrise to a half-hour after sunset for all other allowable uses.
