COLUMBIA, S.C. — In the final hours of the current transfer portal window, South Carolina has lost a key young player on the defensive side of the ball.
Linebacker Grayson "Pup" Howard announced Tuesday that he has entered the transfer portal.
Howard was a four star recruit in the Gamecocks 2023 recruiting class and was also set to compete for the starting inside linebacker spot during spring camp.
"Thank you to the University of South Carolina. Thank you to the coaches, staff and my teammates. Decisions like these are never easy, but necessary. I will be entering my name into the transfer portal. God bless.” Howard said on social media Tuesday.
Howard appeared in 11 games as a Freshman and totaled 19 tackles, one forced fumble and one tackle for loss.
Howard becomes the second Gamecock inside linebacker to enter the portal following Stone Blanton's departure from the program on December 24th.
