Wesley Bryan Reflects On His First PGA Tour Event

It wasn't the finish he wanted, but Chapin's Wesley Bryan did accomplish a major first in making the cut in his PGA Tour debut.

Former Gamecock golfer Wesley Bryan made the cut in his PGA Tour debut in Memphis.

Dutch Fork High School had two of its graduates navigating their way around TPC Southwind in Memphis.

While Dustin Johnson was shooting up the leaderboard with a Sunday surge, Wesley Bryan was putting the finishing touches on his first PGA Tour event.

Bryan earned a sponsors exemption into the FedEx St. Jude Classic and thanks to a 4-under 66 in round 2, Bryan made the cut and played the weekend.

With two wins already on the Web.com Tour this season, Bryan will be on the PGA Tour in 2017. But the trip to Memphis gave him an preview of what it will be like competing against the best golfers in the world.

Bryan certainly learned a lot from playing such a demanding course as TPC Southwind. On Saturday, Bryan stuggled to an 8-over par 78. Sunday's final round saw Bryan shoot the same score he did in Round 1 - an even par 70. He finished tied for 58th and left the course wanting more, but also taking a moment to appreciate what he accomplished.

"I had a blast playing the weekend in my first PGA Tour event," Bryan said.

"I would have loved to play a little better, but I definitely learned a lot. I learned that hard courses are made harder when you miss fairways. Although the finish was not what I was looking for, I still have a lot of positives to draw on from the week."

Bryan will return to the Web.com Tour this week as he is in the field for the Nashville Golf Open.
