Bright light over South Carolina this morning explained

Ice crystals behind the rocket in the pre-dawn hours were high enough in the sky to catch sunlight in the otherwise dark skies this morning.

WALTERBORO, S.C. — What a scene this morning! This video from a Walterboro resident near Charleston, South Carolina showed an out-of-this-world scene with a pretty out-of-this-world explanation as well.

The SpaceX Falcon launch left Cape Canaveral, Florida at around 5:40 a.m. A few minutes later, it was flying right overhead in South Carolina. What our viewers and many more were seeing was the trail of ice crystals behind the rocket.

While the skies were still dark for residents watching the scene from the ground, the rocket was high enough in the sky that the rising sun was reflecting off of them.

Not only did we get the best show in the house, but the reusable booster that carried that payload of StarLink satellites came right back down and was recovered from the waters off of Charleston.
