WILMINGTON, N.C. — A massive earthquake rattled the deep waters off the Southeastern coastline around noon on Wednesday.
The quake happened roughly 380 miles off the coast of North Carolina near Wilmington and about 470 miles from Myrtle Beach in South Carolina. It was also about 350 miles from Bermuda to the east. It had an estimated depth of about six miles.
And while it was a considerable distance from the mainland, a handful of East Coast residents reported to the U.S. Geological Survey that they felt the rumble themselves.
As of Friday, 10 residents claimed to have felt something they believe was related to the earthquake according to the USGS. Of those, one was from Wilmington, North Carolina and others were in the South Carolina cities of Georgetown, Charleston, and Cheraw.
