NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. — A bridge over I-26 in Newberry County has been closed after being struck during an accident.
The Newberry County Sheriff's Office confirmed that a truck pulling an excavator struck the center of the Bachman Chapel Road bridge Thursday, July 6. The damage was sufficient to close the bridge over the interstate.
Sheriff Foster said the truck did not stop after the accident and that commuters in the area should seek alternative routes. Bachman Chapel Road connects SC219 to US Hwy 76 in Prosperity. There has not been a date set for repair or replacement of the bridge.
