Coroner identifies 89-year-old driver who died days after Aiken County crash

An 89-year-old man died after a two-vehicle crash on Robert M Bell Parkway in Aiken County. The accident is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol

AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. — The Aiken County Coroner's Office has released the name of an 89-year-old man who died days after a two-vehicle crash.

According to Coroner Darryl Ables, the initial crash happened on Wednesday around 10:50 a.m. on Robert M. Bell Parkway (Highway 118 Bypass) at Trolley Line Road.

South Carolina Highway Patrol investigators said a 1993 Buick sedan was heading west on Robert M. Bell Parkway and attempting a left turn onto Trolley Line Road. An eastbound Ford coupe struck the Buick. The Ford driver wasn't injured, but the Buick driver, 89-year-old David P. Emory, was taken to Wellstar MCG Hospital in Augusta. He died on Saturday morning around 9:50 a.m.

The Aiken County Coroner's Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating the crash.
