COLUMBIA, S.C. — Morning commuters in the Spears Creek Church, I-20 area may have seen a scary scenario at a local gas station. Columbia-Richland Fire Department responded to a call of a vehicle on fire around 8:20 a.m. Thursday, June 15.
Arriving at the scene, a gas station at the corner of Liberty Ridge Drive and Spears Creek Church Road, the fire crew found a private ambulance with it's engine area on fire.
Three crew members were in the ambulance at the time, all were able to escape the fire without injury. No patient was being transferred at the time of the fire.
There was no traffic impacts to the surrounding area as the fire was in the parking lot of the convenience store.
As of 9:20 a.m., the fire is out.
