Lexington County identifies 59-year-old bicyclist who died after crash

The crash happened on May 9, authorities said.

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities have released the name of a Gaston man who died days after he was hit by an SUV while riding a bicycle in Lexington County.

Lance Corporal Lena Butler with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened on May 9 at about 2:20 p.m. along Woodtrail Drive (Secondary 663) near Sandy Oak Lane in Lexington County. Butler said a 2003 Toyota 4Runner was heading south on Woodtrail Drive when it collided with the bicycle. 

The crash sent the rider to the hospital, where he died on Friday, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher. Fisher has since identified the victim as 59-year-old Diego Federico Suarez-Pelaez. No additional details about the crash have been released.
