No serious injuries in Friday morning school bus accident near Swansea, officials say

The crash happened outside Swansea around 7:30 a.m., officials said. There were roughly 30 students on the bus.

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — Three students were taken to an area hospital as a precaution following an early morning school bus accident in Lexington County on Friday.

According to a spokesperson for Lexington County, the initial call came out around 7:30 a.m. that a vehicle had rear-ended a Lexington School District Four bus near the intersection of South Carolina Highway 6 and Martin Neese Road outside of Swansea.

Authorities said there were about 30 students on the bus, and all were checked. Three were taken to an area hospital for what first responders described as minor injuries. A school district spokesperson said parents who arrived at the scene followed them to the hospital.

The district spokesperson said the other students were placed on a different bus following the collision and taken to school at the district's Early Childhood Center and Swansea Primary School. The crash temporarily shut down the highway, but officials said the road reopened.

The school district said the bus driver wasn't injured, and the county said officials were unaware of any injuries in the other vehicle. News19 has requested additional information from the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
