Residents want answers on Two Notch Road construction; here's what we know

The South Carolina Department of Transportation said the project will last until 2025.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Cones have filled the busy streets of Two Notch Road between Ferrell Drive and Spring Court for what residents said has been almost six months of construction. They want to know what's going on.

"We just came to work and all the lanes were shifted and cones were put up," said Lauren Gillespie, owner of Ace Glass.

Her store is in the middle of the project, and she said getting in and out of the road has not been easy.

"It is a headache trying to get out of the parking lot; so, it's definitely harder to get into our parking lot," Gillespie said. "We've had people complaining, calling us, saying they can't find us."

News19 asked the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) about the project's status. In a statement, the department said:

"These lane closures are related to a bridge reconstruction project over the CSX railroad near Fontaine road. Utility relocations are underway now and, as the project progresses, the bridge will be demolished and reconstructed."

This will be an active construction project through 2025, and the traffic control measures will stay in place throughout the project. "

Gillespie said she is already eager for the project to be completed.

"If we're going to do it, let's just do it," she said.
