LEXINGTON, S.C. — A Lexington road is open again, and a driver was cited following a three-vehicle crash involving a school bus that happened on Friday afternoon.

The crash happened on Mineral Springs Road and involved a bus from Lexington County School District One, police said. The road was temporarily closed in both directions as police investigated the crash and crews cleared the scene.

The initial investigation led to a citation for the van driver for following too closely. The citation comes with a fine of $232.50 and four points on the driver's record, a department spokesperson said. Police said the van driver struck another vehicle, pushing it into the stopped school bus.

Authorities said the three students and the bus driver were not hurt. A school district spokesperson said the bus was on an afternoon route for River Bluff High School. Employees of Lexington One arrived at the scene after the crash to unite students and parents.

The route has since reopened.
