LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — The Lexington County coroner has identified a man killed in a head-on crash with a tractor-trailer that also seriously injured another on Friday near Lake Murray.
According to Master Trooper David Jones with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 11:10 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 378 and Lake Village Drive - a Leesville address about 8 miles north of town.
Based on the preliminary investigation, authorities said a 1989 Peterbilt tractor-trailer was heading west on U.S. 378 when a 2001 Ford Ranger crossed the center line and hit the tractor-trailer head-on. The driver of the Ford was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. A passenger in the Ford, later identified as 64-year-old Bobby Joe Price of Leesville, was also taken to the hospital but died. The coroner's office said he wasn't wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The driver of the Peterbilt was not injured.
Investigators are still working to piece together exactly what caused the crash.
