LEXINGTON, S.C. — A well-traveled road in Lexington has reopened following a traffic-snarling crash.

The Lexington Police Department said the crash had both lanes of Corley Mill Road blocked, with emergency crews working and detours in place.

The crash happened in the 200 block of the road. Police initially reported the crash at 6:32 p.m. and announced that the lanes were open again at 6:55 p.m.

The department described it as the second one involving someone driving under the influence in the last 24 hours. In an update, police said the crash was caused by an impaired driver crossing the center line and striking an oncoming vehicle.

Police took the opportunity to urge drivers not to drink and drive.

"If you choose to drink this evening, there are many options available to avoid outcomes," the department said in its statement.

Officials suggested calling a friend, a rideshare service, or a taxi.

"Don't risk your life or the lives of others by being overconfident in your ability to drive impaired," the statement concluded.
