State troopers are asking anyone who saw a white truck in the area to call Highway Patrol immediately.

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — A woman was killed in a crash after a rock was thrown through her windshield in Burke County on Wednesday, state troopers said.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol was called to a deadly crash along Conley Road near Jeeter Carswell Road near Morganton Wednesday night. Troopers said the driver of a 2006 Ford Taurus, 23-year-old Brittany Elizabeth Ferguson, drove off the right side of the road and crashed into a house. Ferguson was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

Abigail Rumlet was at church when she heard the news that Ferguson crashed into her house. She said she had to park roughly three driveways down just to get there. She eventually walked up and saw the car crashed into her deck.

"Bad, it was just it was just horrible," Rumlet said

Troopers determined that Ferguson was killed by the rock thrown through her windshield.

Witnesses told investigators they saw a white Chevrolet S-10 pickup driving back and forth in the area after the wreck. They said a man was seen riding in the bed of the truck.

Rumlet and the family are asking the people for any information and asking to send prayers.

State troopers are asking anyone who saw this truck to call them immediately at (828) 466-5500 to help identify the driver and person riding in the truck's bed.
