NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. — Authorities say a person is dead after following off the back of a truck and being run over by the trailer it was pulling.
The Aiken County Coroner's Office said the incident happened on Friday around 4 p.m. in the 6000 block of Northside Drive in North Augusta. While many details are still under investigation, Coroner Darryl Ables said the victim was riding on the back of a truck when he fell off and was run over by the trailer. The victim was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.
Coroner Ables said the victim's name would be released once his family has been notified. An autopsy is being scheduled in Newberry County.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is also investigating the death.
