Fire at 2222 Main causes traffic issues in Cottontown area of Columbia early Monday morning

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Columbia Firefighters were on the scene trying to contain a 2-alarm fire that began early Monday morning at an abandoned building on North Main Street in Columbia.

Traffic along the 2200 block of Main Street in the Cottontown area of Columbia was being rerouted while crews get the fire under control at the former Jim Moore Cadillac building at 2222 Main St. The fire was called in around 5:30 a.m. Monday, December 2, at the vacant two-story commercial building. Crews arriving at the scene found a large fire going on in two floors of the building. 

No injuries have been reported at this time, the cause of the fire is under investigation. 

The building and surrounding property has been under discussion for development of a four-story apartment complex with 350 beds and has recently gone before City of Columbia's Planning Commission and Design/Development Review Commission
