RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — One person is dead and two drivers were injured following a crash on Broad River Road outside of Columbia on Wednesday.
According to Master Trooper Brandon Bolt with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before 1 p.m. at a traffic light roughly five miles west of Columbia and involved five vehicles.
Authorities said a 2014 Ford Edge struck the back of a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck which then started a chain reaction involving a 2015 Mercedes sedan, a 2015 Ford Taurus, a 2014 Ford Edge, and a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe.
The driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck was killed in the crash. The drivers of the Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford edge were also injured and taken to an area hospital for treatment. Other drivers and one passenger who were involved in the crash were not injured.
