GREENSBORO, N.C. — A witness told WFMY News 2's Jay Capers that a police car responding to a car crash was hit by a train.
Karden Chen said his uncle was involved in a two-car crash on Hilltop Road. Chen said a Greensboro police vehicle was parked along the train tracks while responding to the incident.
Later, while the officer was outside the car, a train barreled into the back of the cruiser. The witness said the officer was not hit.
Amtrak told WFMY News 2 that train 76 collided with an unoccupied vehicle obstructing the track. According to a statement from Amtrak, the train was traveling in the area around 6:50 p.m. when it hit the unoccupied vehicle.
None of the 58 passengers or crew members aboard were injured in the crash, Amtrak said.
The Greensboro Police Department said they are continuing to investigate the crash and the department is conducting an internal administrative investigation.
The officer who was involved in the crash remains on active duty, according to the Greensboro Police Department.
