Crews respond to multiple eastbound I-26 crashes several miles apart

As of 6:30 p.m., one wreck near US-1/Augusta Road had cleared, but two more further west on the interstate are still causing congestion.

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — Traffic maps show multiple wrecks on I-26 spread across several miles in or near Lexington County.

As of 6:30 p.m., South Carolina Department of Transportation maps show eastbound wrecks about two miles west of Exit 91 to Chapin and about one mile east of Exit 97 to U.S. 176 - Broad River Road. Both crashes are causing significant delays, according to traffic maps.

Maps initially showed another crash a half mile east of exit 111B to Augusta Road Northbound into West Columbia. Details on the number of vehicles involved and possible injuries weren't available. And while traffic was initially blocked past the Leaphart Road overpass, the crash has since been cleared.
