YORK COUNTY, S.C. — A deadly crash involving multiple cars closed Interstate 77 southbound near the York and Chester County line for several miles on Sunday morning, according to the York County Sheriff's Office. South Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed four people died as a result of the crash.
According to deputies, all lanes on I-77 southbound between exits 73 in York County and exit 65 in Chester County were reopened around 10:45 a.m. on Sunday.
The cars involved were a 2012 Honda Civic, occupied by the driver and three passengers, and a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup with only the driver inside, deputies said.
The Chevrolet was traveling north in the southbound lane, and crashed into the Honda head on.
The crash killed the driver and two occupants of the Honda, as well as the driver of the Chevrolet. The third passenger has been transported by EMS to a hospital, deputies confirmed.
