Lane closed on Broad River Road after power pole snapped in crash

Drivers should use extreme caution in the area.

A power pole snapped in an overnight collision on Broad River Road in Columbia, South Carolina.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Eastbound drivers along Bush River Road can expect a traffic bottleneck due to ongoing repair work.

The Columbia Police Department shared a photo on Thursday morning of a power pole snapped in two with the upper part still suspended by power lines. 

The department said that an overnight collision caused the damage which happened in the area of Broad River Road between Beatty Road and Connie Drive - an area not far from St. Andrews Park.

Authorities haven't said exactly how the crash happened or if there were any injuries reported. However, Dominion is already at the location working to repair the damage.

In the meantime, one eastbound lane is closed and police are asking drivers to be especially cautious when driving through the area.
