Lee County collision sparks hospitalizations and gunfire investigation

Two people were hospitalized after a crash in Lee County, with deputies also investigating a related report of gunfire.

LEE COUNTY, S.C. — A crash involving a car and a motorcycle has sent two people in Lee County to area hospitals as deputies also investigate a related report of shots fired.

Sheriff Daniel Simon said the crash happened around 2 p.m. on Sunday along Manville-Wisacky Road, not far from Sumter Highway. Simon said a woman riding a motorcycle was turning into her driveway when she was hit by a car that then overturned in the yard.

The sheriff said preliminary findings suggest the victim's husband was home at the time and fired shots in the air when the car driver allegedly tried to run from the scene. The motorcyclist was airlifted to an area trauma center for treatment. The car driver was also taken to the hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.

Simon said the crash has since been cleared. His office is investigating the reported gunfire, and the South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
