Lee County crash leaves one dead, another injured on Thursday morning

Investigators believe a truck was struck by another vehicle at an intersection, sending the truck through a ditch and into a fence, killing the driver.

LEE COUNTY, S.C. — One driver is dead and another is in the hospital following a Thursday morning crash in Lee County.

Lance Corporal Tyler Tidwell said the South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, which happened just after 9 a.m. at the intersection of Liberty Hill and Gilbert roads just over seven miles northeast of Bishopville.

According to Tidwell, a 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe was heading west on Liberty Hill Road when it was struck by a 2006 Toyota that was heading north on Gilbert. The collision sent the Tahoe into a ditch and through a fence, killing the driver.

The driver of the Toyota was taken to Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville for treatment of unspecified injuries.

The Lee County Coroner's Office has not yet released the name of the victim in the crash.
