Lee County resident who died in Sumter County crash identified

Investigators believe the vehicle crossed the center line, went off the road and over an embankment before flipping.

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — We're now learning more about a deadly crash on a Sumter County road that happened early Sunday morning.

According to Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened just after 7 a.m. along U.S. 15 (North Main Street) near Biddle Road which is roughly 4 miles north of Sumter.

Ridgeway said the 25-year-old Lee County victim was in a 2016 Honda Coup when the vehicle crossed the center line and left the road on the left side, hitting an embankment and then flipping.

Later Sunday, the Sumter County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 25-year-old Kanisha Temoney of Peachtree Lane in Bishopville.

Temoney died at the scene, the coroner said. An autopsy is scheduled for later this week at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston as the cause of death is still under investigation.
