Driver killed in I-77 crash in Lexington County, another hospitalized

A fatal crash on I-77 in Lexington County left one driver dead and another injured early Saturday morning, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — One driver is dead, and another is in the hospital after an early Saturday morning interstate crash in Lexington County.

According to Corporal Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 6:20 a.m. on southbound I-77 near the one-mile marker. 

Pye said a Ford SUV was heading south on the interstate when it struck a stopped Volkswagen sedan. The driver of the Volkswagen died from injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the Ford was taken to an area hospital with unspecified injuries. Pye deferred to the Lexington County Coroner's Office for information about the deceased driver.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
