COLUMBIA, S.C. — Authorities are warning that a section of Broad River Road is temporarily closed due to a two-vehicle crash that happened just after 7 p.m.

Columbia Police said that both drivers involved in the crash have been taken to the hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.

Irmo Fire District, which responded to the crash along with the Columbia-Richland Fire Department, said that the crash happened in the 4900 block of Broad River Road.

That's in the area of the South Carolina Department of Broad River Correctional Institution, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division offices, and the end of Piney Grove Road.

A preliminary investigation by Columbia Police's Traffic Safety Unit indicates the drive of a Ford Raptor traveling south on Broad River Road crossed the lane and a median and sideswiped the driver's side a Nissan Maxima traveling north.

Two nearby witnesses rendered aid until EMS arrived. Both drivers were sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
