COLUMBIA, S.C. — Don't say you weren't warned ahead of time... South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) will be temporarily closing the westbound exit ramp of I-20 where it connects to I-26 westbound -- at Malfunction Junction -- as part of Carolina Crossroads Phase 2.
Specifically, Exit-64B/Spartanburg on I-20 westbound onto I-26 westbound will close at 9 p.m. Friday, April 28, and will reopen by 6 a.m. Monday, May 1.
Motorists normally using the ramp will be detoured through the entire cloverleaf to get onto I-26 westbound from Columbia. That means, instead of taking Exit-64B, motorists will
- take Exit-64A onto I-26 eastbound toward Charleston -- staying in the far-right lane
- take Exit-107B onto I-20 eastbound toward Florence -- staying in the far-right lane
- take Exit-64B onto I-26 westbound toward Spartanburg
SCDOT wants to advise drivers in the area to use caution and plan accordingly for expected delays.
Phase 2 of Carolina Crossroads will reconstruct the interchange at Broad River Road and I-20 to improve traffic. The project will also lengthen access from I-20 Westbound onto I-26 Westbound to minimize traffic congestion.
