Motorcyclist killed in I-20 crash outside Columbia

Authorities believe the motorcycle hit another vehicle. The rider died at the scene of the crash.

A motorcyclist has died following an early morning crash in Richland County, authorities say.

Lance Corporal Lena Butler with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 3:40 a.m. on I20, roughly two miles east of Columbia. Butler said a 2010 Honda Element with two occupants was heading east on I-20 when it was hit by a 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling in the same direction.

The motorcyclist died at the scene of the crash. The occupants of the Honda weren't hurt, authorities said.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash. The Richland County Coroner's Office hasn't yet released the name of the deceased.
