1 dead, 7 sent to hospital after multi-vehicle accident in Richland County

Accident occurred on Parklane Road Thursday afternoon

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A multi-vehicle accident left one person dead and seven hospitalized Thursday afternoon in north Richland County.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol's Lance Corporal Brittany Glover, the incident occurred around 5:36 p.m. Thursday. Nov. 30, on Parklane Road at the intersection of Crestbrook Road, just before the S.C. Highway 277 interchange. Six vehicles were involved in the incident:

  • Vehicle one was a 2003 Mercury with a driver only
  • Vehicle two was a 2011 Nissan Rogue with the driver plus two occupants – one person dead and two in hospital
  • Vehicle three was a 2010 Mercedes Benz with the driver plus two occupants – all three hospitalized
  • Vehicle four was a 2013 Nissan Altima with a driver only, hospitalized
  • Vehicle five was a 2008 Buick with a driver only, hospitalized
  • Vehicle six is unknown

Lance Corporal Glover said that at the time of the accident, vehicles one and five were traveling west on Parklane while vehicles two, three, four, and six were traveling east on Parklane. 

The accident was caused by vehicle one when the driver of that vehicle hit all of the other vehicles.

The SCHP is still investigating the accident, and the identities of the drivers and passengers involved have not been released.
