SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities say one person is dead, and another is receiving treatment following a crash that happened in Sumter County on Sunday morning.
According to Lance Corporal Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 7 a.m. on Patriot Parkway near Shaw Drive. Pye said a 2004 Pontiac sedan was heading north on Patriots Parkway when it left the road and hit a tree.
Pye said the driver of the car died from injuries sustained in the crash, and the only passenger was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The Sumter County Coroner's Office has not publicly identified the victim.
