Person hit by three cars in fatal hit-and-run on Broad River Road identified

Early morning incident on November 3 involved pedestrian, three vehicles

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford has identified the person killed after a hit and run in Richland County involving a pedestrian and three vehicles. 

Elliott Farmer, 44, of Columbia, was identified as the pedestrian struck and killed while attempting to cross Broad River Road early Wednesday morning.

Corporal Matt Southern of the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) said the incident occurred at approximately 2:52 a.m. November 3, 2021, on Broad River Road near Marley Drive.

Southern said Farmer was trying to cross Broad River Road when he was struck by a Nissan Maxima and two other vehicles that were travelling west on Broad River.

The driver of the Nissan stayed at the scene and was not injured, while the drivers of the two other vehicles fled the scene. There is no description available of the two other vehicles involved in the incident.

Farmer was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation by SCHP and the department's Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT), and the Richland County Coroner's Office.
