87-year-old woman killed in Lexington County crash

The accident happened around 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

LEXINGTON, S.C. — A Columbia woman is dead after a single-car crash in Lexington County. 

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. William Bennett, the crash happened around 2:30 p.m., roughly three miles from Gaston.

Bennett said a 2018 Toyota SUV was traveling south on Old Sandy Run Road near the intersection of Pine Plain Road when it ran off the road and struck an embankment and then some trees. 

The driver, later identified by the Lexington County Coroner's Office as 87-year-old Elfriede Kreutzer Martin of Columbia, was taken to an area hospital, where she died of her injuries. 

The accident remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
