LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities say one teen has died and juveniles were hurt in an accident that happened early Friday morning in Lexington County.
According to Master Trooper David Jones with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 7 a.m. near the intersection of Pond Branch and Neely Wingard roads - just east of I-20.
The crash occurred when a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe heading east on Neely Wingard Road attempted to cross Pond Branch Road and was struck by a southbound 2001 Ford minivan on that road.
The impact sent the Tahoe off the right side of the roadway forcing it to overturn and ejecting two of the passengers. One of those two died from her injuries.
The Lexington County Coroner's Office later identified the deceased as 14-year-old Belinda Roblero-Perez of Leesville. The office also provided additional information about the crash suggesting the Tahoe had failed to stop at a stop sign just before being struck.
All surviving occupants of the Tahoe and the driver of the minivan were taken to an area hospital for treatment. The coroner's office added that the driver and three other juvenile passengers were all said to have non-life-threatening injuries. The van driver's injuries were described as minor.
