One dead, two hospitalized after crash in Orangeburg County

A crash on U.S. 321 in Orangeburg County left one person dead and two others injured, with the South Carolina Highway Patrol investigating.

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. — One person is dead, and two others are in the hospital after a Thursday afternoon crash in Orangeburg County.

Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened before 2 p.m. in the area of U.S. 321 (Savannah Highway) and Creek Mill Road near the town of North. Ridgeway said a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck was heading north on U.S. 321 when it struck a 2015 Honda sedan in the rear. Emergency responders took the driver of the Honda to a Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) hospital. 

The passenger in the vehicle died at the scene. Ridgeway deferred to the Orangeburg County Coroner's Office for more information about the deceased victim. The driver of the Chevrolet was also taken to an MUSC hospital for treatment.

Ridgeway said the South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
