LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — An early morning traffic accident that caused a slowdown for motorists along I-26 East, near the Peak exit, has been cleared.

Around 4:45 a.m. Wednesday, a dump truck carrying asphalt overturned, spilling its load. There was also a small oil leak associated with this incident. DHEC was not required to be at the scene because of the small amount of oil released on the roadway. A local emergency response team spread "oil dry" to contain the oil and clean up the scene.

No injuries have been reported, but traffic was still backed up as of 8:30 a.m. Just before 10 a.m., SCDOT reported all lanes were back open.

This is an ongoing story that will be updated as information becomes available.
