AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities are sharing new details regarding an early morning interstate crash in Aiken County that left one person dead on Saturday.
According to Master Trooper Gary Miller with the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP), the crash happened around 4:30 a.m. when a 2010 Kia sedan hit a car that had been abandoned in the westbound lanes of I-20.
Miller said the other vehicle, a 2013 Chevrolet Impala, had been disabled by a previous crash and was unoccupied when it was hit roughly two miles east of North Augusta. After striking the Chevrolet, the Kia was then hit by a 2012 Dodge Charger traveling the same route.
The driver of the Kia was taken to an undisclosed area hospital and a rear passenger was taken to Augusta Medical Center for treatment. However, a front passenger died.
Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said that his office was working to notify the victim's family before releasing the person's name.
Both his office and the SCHP are still investigating the crash.
