LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) is investigating a fatal collision that occurred Sunday that left one person dead.
Around 7:49 p.m. Sunday, October 3, a 2002 Toyota Tacoma with a driver and passenger was headed west along I-26 when the truck collided with a pedestrian walking east in the westbound lanes near mile marker 111. That's is near Augusta Road, about one mile north of Springdale.
The truck driver did stop and stayed at the scene, neither the driver or passenger in the truck were injured. The pedestrian, identified by Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher as 68-year-old Clayton Wesley Barrs, of West Columbia, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The coroner's office and SCHP continue to investigate this incident.
