COLUMBIA, S.C. — Richland County is seeking public input on the county's Transportation Department's plans for widening a two-mile stretch of Bluff Road in south Columbia.
A public meeting is scheduled for 5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church, 1609 Zion Ave. to review the redesigned plans for the county's Transportation Department's Bluff Road Widening Project and to give feedback on the project.
The plans now include:
- installing a traffic signal at Bluff Road and Bluff Industrial Boulevard
- resurfacing Bluff Road from National Guard/Berea roads to South Beltline Boulevard
- making intersection improvements as needed, such as turn lanes
This is the second phase of the project. Funded by Penny Tax income, a timeline for completion of these improvements has not been set but construction is predicted to begin in 2023.
During the first phase, Richland County Transportation Department crews widened Bluff Road to five lanes, added bicycle/pedestrian lanes from Rosewood Drive to George Rogers Boulevard, and a sidewalk from Rosewood Drive to Bluff Road.
