Richland 1 school bus involved in accident Tuesday morning on Broad River Road

Bus was transporting elementary school students Tuesday morning; other major injuries were reported

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A Richland School District One school bus was involved in a minor accident Tuesday morning in the 1700 block of Broad River Road, near Dutch Square Mall.

The bus was transporting students from H.B. Rhame Elementary School at the time of the incident, around 7:20 a.m.

Richland One representatives did not have much detail of the accident but did confirm the students on the bus were checked out and none had any visible injuries. Parents of three of the students did choose to take their children to a doctor or hospital to be checked.

The school bus was able to transport the other students to school at 1300 Arrowwood Rd., a few blocks away from the accident.

This story will be updated as details become available.

In a separate incident involving a Richland One school bus, district officials confirmed that a fourth-grader at South Kilbourne Elementary was transported to a local hospital after broadsiding the bus on a bicycle near the intersection of Plowden and Dahlia roads Monday afternoon. The school bus driver saw the child on the bike and tried to swerve to avoid him but the brakes on the child's bike did not work and the child collided with the bus. The fourth-grader broke a leg as a result of the impact but is reportedly doing fine on Tuesday.
