Forest Drive reopens after overnight crash causes downed power lines

The Forest Acres Police Department says multiple power lines were down and two poles needed be replaced following an overnight crash.

FOREST ACRES, S.C. — The Forest Acres Police Department is alerting the public that the road has reopened after an overnight closure due to a traffic accident that caused downed power lines.

Officials say the closure impacted Forest Drive between Beltline Boulevard and Falcon Drive due to multiple power lines being down and two poles needing to be replaced.

This came after a driver of a truck hit two power poles around 1:35 a.m. on Forest between Dalloz Road and Florawood Drive on Wednesday morning.

Officials say power was out for homes and businesses in the area -- leaving over 377 people without power. Dominion Energy worked to get two power poles from the facility where they are stored in another county and replaced before the morning traffic rush.

Morning commutes from Forest Acres into downtown and traffic going to A.C. Flora High School were expected to be affected. Columbia Police assisted in early morning traffic detours.
