COLUMBIA, S.C. — Monday morning is almost always a commuter's nightmare but scheduled roadwork and unexpected flooding is causing delays in some Midlands areas.
Sunday's heavy rains have caused road closures in Sumter. According to Sumter Police, the following roads are temporarily closed due to flooding:
- S Pike E outside of the Department of Motor Vehicles
- Liberty Street in front of Swan Lake Gardens
Roads are likely to be cleared before the end of the day.
- 521 near Dalzelle, just north of Shaw AFB, is also partially flooded.
Scheduled maintenance along I-77 has closed the northbound lanes for 5 miles -- from the on-ramp at I-26 to Bluff Road. South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is scheduled to be completed on April 2, weather permitting. In the meantime, motorists are being re-routed through surrounding cities and interstates.
Today's forecast has a 40% chance of storms, mainly during the first half of the day.
